HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A 17-year-old male and a 20-year-old woman are charged after it was discovered a child was exposed to severe conditions, including feces, bug bites, and gasoline, Harris County court records show.
According to court records obtained by ABC13, the teenager, identified as Drake Fernandez, and the woman, identified as Tannis Harrington, were arrested on Saturday night and are charged with felony child endangerment.
The records stated that the child was exposed to severe conditions, including an environment where the child could inhale "feces, urine, rotten food, insects, and gasoline."
The suspects also allowed the child to be bitten by "possibly disease-carrying insects", court records show, adding that they also consumed marijuana and alcohol while caring for the child and failed to provide the child adequate hygiene.
According to the records, the conditions of the child were so severe that two decontamination baths were required before the child could be treated by hospital staff.
Fernandez and Harrington are also charged with animal cruelty after a dog in their custody was not provided clean water and food or adequate hygiene and was confined in a "cruel manner," court records allege.
The relationship between the two suspects, as well as their relationship to the child, is unknown at this time.
